Blood Moon Eclipse of 2025

By

Since I was little I have been fascinated by the night sky.

Last night there was an eclipse and I decided to wake up at 2:15 am to see it. Fortunately, it didn’t feel too cold and it was a clear sky.

I got a tripod and connected my mount that holds my cell phone and monocular. This was a recent purchase, so I didn’t have much experience getting the right combo of camera app and monocular.

I used the Xcamera App. To increase stability I used the 3 second timer so when I touched the screen the camera had time to stop moving before taking the picture.

The monocular telescope is hand sized, great for getting a closer look when walking as it has the same optics and half the size of binoculars. The one bought is 16 x 52, which gives a decent field of vision and zoom.

You can get higher levels, but the field narrows and the need for a stable base grows significantly.

I spent about an hour outside and then went back to bed as I had to work on Friday, but it was well worth the time spent.
