Did you ever notice if you are walking and your eye catches something as you focus on it you drift toward it?
This happens everyday in life. Our attention is valuable. Friends, family, coworkers, and businesses fight for our attention every minute of every day.
How we direct our attention is a learned trait. It is not fixed.
Each day I focus my attention by identifying three things to accomplish that day across my three areas of importance in my life. I write these down in my journal. I don’t need one for each, only three total within those three areas.
In this way I know my efforts each day will improve at least one area of focus. Of course to do this you need to know which three areas you are seeking to improve and have strategies to do so.
Problems draw our attention. Sometimes we ignore them, and we shouldn’t.
We need to classify our problems. Is it within our control to solve it? If not, how much is in our control, how much can we influence it, and how much is outside our control?
Then, how do we convert our problem to an opportunity?
If I want to lose weight, I don’t look at what I can’t have, but instead what I like that I can. I also look to add foods that work with my diet that I didn’t previously eat.
For instance, I always liked swordfish steak, but rarely ate it. Now I have it once a week.
A good way to see the positives is to journal three good things that happened today. The more you place your attention on the positives in your life, the more positives you will find.
So focusing your attention on what matters will help your self improvement and raise your spirits as you see more and more positives in your daily life.
