We each have a natural rhythm. Our body has a rhythm, there is a societal rhythm, and nature has a rhythm.
The problem is that these are all different to an extent. They conflict with one another. This causes problems.
Since most of us have to work, our work schedule is the one around which everything else is set, for better or worse.
If you have school age kids, their school schedule has to be aligned with your work schedule or you have to start making accommodations and this creates anxiety.
Your logistics are how and when you and ones you care for, get to where they need to be. This can consume hours in a day, and those are fixed at twenty four.
The best estimate is that we spend one hour a day in our cars. We likely spend 9 hours a day working, which includes lunch and getting there a bit early and leaving more or less in time.
Ten hours are consumed with these two tasks and we center our lives around them.
Sleep from a mind and body perspective is the most important thing we do and studies show seven to nine hours is optimal for adults. From polls and reports it is reported that one third of adult Americans don’t get enough sleep and half don’t think they get enough.
Why? People prioritize sleep last and as a result of how they live life, can’t get the sleep they need, because anxiety keeps them from it. They can’t fall asleep.
What is your routine? How much do you try to pack into a day, or a weekend? Do you feel that the more you do the more productive you are and better you will be perceived?
Does it work for you?
I found flexible routines work well when they are anchored by a sleep routine.
Keeping your sleep cycle stable and being flexible around it is the best place to start. Then you have to prioritize. You must have a short list
In doing this you have to focus on how it is taking you from your good to great, and not based on what others think of you.
