Are You at Peace?

Are you at peace with your life?

I saw this question asked on a post and it got me thinking, what does this mean?

To many people, it means: are you okay with yourself, despite what may be going on around you. You feel you are living in accordance with your values and you’re not comfortable with what is happening out there, but you don’t feel that you are contributing to it, so you are at peace or okay with yourself.

For me being at peace with yourself means despite outcomes you are comfortable with the decisions you made based on the circumstances and information you had when you made them in accordance with the values you then held.

The perspectives of time, place and experience may result in you making different decisions now given the same situation, but a different decision then would not give you the peace you have now.

With a meaning of being at peace with yourself in hand, it is often assumed it would be better to be at peace with yourself in the moment, than not, but is this true?

You either are or are not at peace with yourself. You will know. You can try to say you are at peace when you are not and actively try to convince yourself or others through things like denial, self-deception, or some other failure. Maybe you truly are ignorant and unable to know you are not at peace.

Regardless, you will know at some level if you are not at peace with yourself.

We check or ask ourselves this to identify corrective action or continue positive ones.

The best follow-up to are you at peace with yourself, whether the answer is yes or no, is why?

Go ahead. Try it. See what you learn about yourself.
