Sadly there was a technical glitch with Big Read 6 in North American, but the recorded session was made available and the event continued with Big Read 7 on June 29 without issue.
Christine Larsen presented Echoes of the Silmarillion for the discussion of the Lord of the Rings, book 2, part 1. Chapters one through five.
The presentation focused on how references from the Silmarillion contributed to the story and questioned how much of the story is missing with only the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and Silmarillion.
Of note was what more we learn from Unfinished Tales and the History of Middle Earth with its contradictions and gaps, it leaves the reader with even more questions and a greater desire to learn more.
A great presentation on a topic I very much enjoy as I’m working though my Turin biography using all these sources. I did not participate in the break-outs, which are often very engaging, mostly on account of the fact that between the live presentation and Q & A, the break-outs didn’t begin until 10 p.m. and having been up early and taking a five hour hike earlier, I was exhausted, but the presentation was a wonderful way to cap a great day..
